SHORTCUTS

In
  this town it seems
there's
  a back way to everywhere,
paths
  that snake through woods
from
  dead-end streets to places
a
newcomer would not know how to expect.

Someone
once decided that a quicker way
was
  worth moving boulders for,
hauled
  fallen limbs, even built
small bridges
  over potential floods,
then
  chose to leave the entrances
unmarked.
If
you don't already know where the shortcut is,
you
  will never find it.
