Small Town News

The year four trees

planted by our parents in the back yard

produced abundant fruit

we ate apples 'til we were sick.

But the news got around,

and children from blocks away

came knocking at our door,

seeking opulent juiciness.

Summertime Treat

Remember Ham Sandwiches?

With yellow mustard.

10 cents, at Safeway.

When we were lucky

and convinced Mummy,

we ate them twice a day.
