X and Why

Mathematicians write out
Long equations
In their constant struggle
To find x and y.

The desire corrupts them, fills
Them with intangible thoughts as
The variables change before
They can work the numbers out.

To the point where these
Great minds look upon
Egyptian pyramids and only see a
Hypotenuse supported by two legs.
