MICHAEL

We're young

And when it takes us, we kiss

And such a kiss of pleading as to want of nothing but to be understood

And such touching as to ravage the air and plead "I am not alone."

What trembles and what remains

Effortlessly plucked and sounding in the air

Is the shallowness of bodies and the

Worthlessness of hands and the way we make

A noise that means nothing

It's the price we pay for comfort, the

Proximity of a body whose circling weight

Means nothing to me anyhow
