Cars

cars on a windowpane
sluice slickly down,
isolated drops of rain
strewing streaky trails:
powerlines, roads, & rails,
microwave towers repeated
across resentful terrain
(only refractory landscapes escape).

part of a patternless pattern,
patter & plink on the pane,
all comes together in the rain
in common completion,
a merging of pain,
a pooling of grief,
yet with no relief
of separation, at the end
of the drip, of aloneness,
at the end of the trip.
